The company had the rights to the Euro 2008 football championship which was won by Spain but recently lost the rights to broadcast Champions League matches for the three seasons beginning next year to public television TVE and Mediapro, which owns private television channel La Sexta.

Mediapro, which also has the rights to Spanish Football League matches from 2009 to 2013, plans to start their own pay-TV sports channel shortly.

Prisa's other assets include El Pais, Spain's top-selling newspaper, business paper Cinco Dias, television channel Cuatro, as well as extensive  interests in Latin America.
